Local issues
There are so many things that are wonderful about West Oxfordshire but there’s always things that could be made better and we want to hear from you with your concerns and queries.
Flooding
The 2007 floods, and smaller localised ones since, are still fresh in the mind and we want to work with the Environment Agency nationally and give it extra funds to improve and build new flood defences.
That would have an impact across West Oxfordshire and our councillors in Eynsham have worked hard to deliver one flood defence scheme, there’s much more to be done.
Housing development
Development is important and there are many places around the constituency that are earmarked for new housing.
We believe that development does need to take place so that we can provide homes allowing our young people to stay near their families and not be forced to move away.
However, it is crucial that new housing is developed sensibly and sensitively with good infrastructure, including health, education and transport facilities, and that you are properly consulted.
Save our pubs!
We have excellent pubs and many are at the heart of their local communities, others have been forced to close down leaving empty buildings, unemployment and regular visitors at a loss.
We want to see:
- fairer duty on alcohol
- recognition of the importance of pubs in the community
- a better deal for landlords.
